Serbia - Project applied Nostalgia
Project applied Nostalgia
In 2023, I had the incredible opportunity to be part of Applied Nostalgia, a photography project organized by the Ministry of European Integration of Serbia. The project pairs one photographer from Serbia with another from the country holding the EU Presidency—in this case, Sweden.
As part of the project, I traveled to Belgrade, Serbia, to capture images that reminded me of my home city, Stockholm. At the same time, a Serbian photographer Jadranka Ilić took photos in Stockholm that evoked the atmosphere of Belgrade. The idea was to find visual and emotional connections between these two cities, blending perspectives and cultural influences.
After carefully selecting 20 matching images, our work was showcased in a public exhibition at Europahuset, Stockholm and at Silosi Belgrade where visitors could explore the similarities between these two different yet deeply connected urban landscapes.
Beyond photography, Applied Nostalgia serves as a cultural bridge, promoting Serbia’s values within Europe while also highlighting European influences in Serbia. Being part of this project allowed me to engage in visual storytelling on a deeper level, and it was an experience I will always cherish.
